Kitchens

So much happens in our kitchens - beyond meal preparation, cooking, eating and washing up. Our kitchens are the central hub where we gather. Whether your kitchen is where your kids do their homework or the only room where guests congregate at a party, your kitchen is where life happens. When homeowners ask me to design their kitchens I am so excited to have the opportunity to make their dream kitchen a reality. I love improving flow, function, and storage. I love making the space beautiful. Here are just a few favorites:

This kitchen was dark, cramped and felt dirty. The backsplash and lighting were horrendous. However, the cabinets only needed fresh paint and beautiful hardware. I kept the green marble counters and created a stunning marble mosaic inset feature tile above the range. Elegant mini lanterns above the butcher-block island help to illuminate the space.

This was one of my favorite kitchens to transform! It had been really cramped and I figured a way to expand the footprint by taking a few feet from the breakfast room. Adding just those few feet into the kitchen allowed for more elbow room. I moved the range from a tight corner to its own wall where the prolific chef and entertainer could be at ease. And I knocked out a closet and turned it into a bar with long counter, under counter refrigeration, and great storage.

This modern and clean lined kitchen was a dream come true for the homeowners. The original 1990s golden oak kitchen no longer reflected their style or preferred color palette. I carefully designed a modern version of a shaker cabinet door and took care to select the most streamlined lighting and cabinet hardware.I love the driftwood stained white oak floating shelves I designed and the capacious storage/bar beneath.

A charming kitchen in a charming home! This kitchen redesign was far more complex than the photo reveals. The back wall of cherry cabinets, the peninsula with the sink and the backsplash were part of an earlier facelift I had done. The small kitchen was expanded into an adjoining room which allowed for a large island. I love the two different finishes on the cabinets, the two different stone counters and the two different areas to pull up a stool and sit.

My most favorite kitchen.....my own! What can I say? I love combining curvilinear and rectilinear forms to create a rhythm and a visual balance. Throughout the kitchen wherever there is a right angle, there is also an arc. This kitchen truly is the heart of our home - from family meals and game nights, to where the kids did homework and crafts, to where everyone congregates during a party, the room has seen it all!
